To reach Wolf Park from Interstate 65, take the exit for Indiana State Road 43 North ( Brookston, West Lafayette exit #178). Go north on 43 a mile to State Road 225. Turn right (east) and go about 2 miles directly into Battle Ground. Drive straight through town, cross the railroad tracks and stay to the left. Drive one long block to Jefferson St. and turn left. Follow Jefferson St. about 1 1/2 miles until you come to a large sign on your right for Wolf Park. We are just 1/4 mile up the gravel drive.

Welcome to Purdue University

Visitors coming to Wolf Park for extended stays (internships, practicums, seminar participants) must arrange for all their own travel. We are only able to pick people up from Lafayette, since there is no public transportation that comes to Wolf Park from there. We are sorry, but we cannot pick people up from Indianapolis or Chicago.

Flying

We recommend that visitors traveling by air, try to get into West Lafayette's Purdue Airport. Only two airlines fly into West Lafayette, United Airlines (800/241-6522) has as many as five flights from Chicago daily. Northwest Airlines (800/225-2525) has as many as four flights from Detroit daily. There are car rentals available at the airport, or we can usually pick people up there. Flying into the Indianapolis Airport, is another route. There is a shuttle van between the airport and Lafayette that runs every two hours from early in the morning till late evening. (cost is about $18 one way, $32 round trip) We can pick you up at the Radisson Hotel in Lafayette. Rental cars are also available at the Indianapolis airport, and it is just over one hour's drive to Wolf Park.

Trains

Lafayette has limited service by Amtrak. Times and days vary so check with Amtrak for details. (800/872-7245) The train station is in downtown Lafayette, and we can pick you up there.

Bus

Greyhound serves Lafayette daily from many directions. This can be an inexpensive, but slow way to travel. (765) 742-8836. The bus station is in downtown Lafayette, and we can pick you up from there. For Lafayette bus schedules click here.

Rental Cars

Since Wolf Park is 12 miles from Lafayette where grocery stores, restaurants and shopping is located, it is nice to have a car. U.S. rental agencies will generally not rent to people under the age of 25 and without a major credit card. It is nice to have a car while staying at the Park, since we are in the boonies, but it is not essential, and it is probably expensive. There is also no transportation from hotels to Wolf Park. The following rental agencies have offices here:

Getting to Wolf Park From Chicago

It is not as easy to get here from Chicago as it is from Indianapolis, unless you fly into PurdueÆs airport in West Lafayette. We encourage you to fly through Indianapolis if you cannot fly into Lafayette because it is much easier than travelling from Chicago.

Flying

Only United Airlines flies from Chicago to Lafayette. This flight can cost anywhere from $88 to $350. To get cheaper rates, mid-week flights, and stays of under 30 days help. There are about 5 flights daily, fewer on weekends.

Car Rental

It is about two and a half hours to drive from Chicago OÆHare to Wolf Park. It is not too difficult, and most of the trip is on interstate highways. Just take interstates south following signs for Indiana until you get to Interstate 80 east. Take this to Interstate 65 south, then follow directions.

Ace Rent-a-Car 1-800-323-3221, will rent you a car one-way between Chicago and Lafayette for $55, if you drop the car off within 24 hours.

Greyhound Bus

The bus comes here three times daily from Chicago and itÆs a three hour trip. It leaves Chicago at 7:30 am, 10:30 am, and 4:15 pm. There are no reservations taken. It costs about $40 round trip. The bus station is in downtown Chicago, so you have to get from the airport to downtown as well. Return buses to Chicago leave Lafayette daily at 9:30 am, 12:05 pm (noon), and 6:10 pm.

Amtrak Train

The train runs from Chicago to Lafayette on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays only. It leaves Chicago at 8:10 pm and arrives in Lafayette at 10:48 pm. It is notoriously late. Return trains run only on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 5:44 am, arriving in Chicago at 9:15 am. It costs about $50 -$60 round trip. You need reservations for the train. ChicagoÆs train station is also downtown, so you have to get there from the airport as well.

Getting Downtown From O'Hare

To get to either the train or bus station you can take the Chicago Rapid Transit train. This can be found under OÆHareÆs Terminal 2, on the lower level. (If you are coming from an international flight you must take a train between terminals.) You will take the Blue Line to the æClintonÆ stop, which takes about 50 minutes, and costs just $1.50. At that stop you have to walk to either the bus or train. The train station is two blocks north, at Jackson Street. The bus station is one block south, to Harrison, and one block west. I have not done this, so feel free to ask people for directions at this point. You could probably get a taxi from the airport but it would be quite expensive.

THESE TIMES AND PRICES COULD CHANGE AT ANY TIME SO YOU SHOULD CALL AND CONFIRM BEFORE MAKING AIRLINE RESERVATIONS WHICH COULD LEAVE YOU STRANDED IN CHICAGO OVERNIGHT.
